« Longtemps, j’ai rêvé la Guyane. J’ai quitté ma petite commune de Régina à l’âge de 2 ans. Direction l’Alsace. Pendant 23 ans, la Guyane a continué d’exister à travers les albums et les VHS que mes parents filmaient lorsqu’on rentrait pour les vacances.   

En 2019, j’ai tout plaqué et j’ai décidé de rentrer. Un compact argentique à la main, j’ai documenté mes retrouvailles avec ce pays à présent aussi familier qu’étranger.  

Par où commencer ? Rentrer au péyi, c’est aussi se questionner sur son regard, sa place, son identité.

De retour “chez moi” mais paradoxalement en perte de repères, j’ai commencé par ce que je connaissais. 

J’ai retrouvé le fleuve, et je l’ai suivi.»

« I spent many years dreaming about French Guiana. I left my small town of Régina at the age of 2, heading to Alsace. For 23 years, Guiana kept on existing through family albums and movies my parents filmed when we would go back for the holidays. 

In 2019, I packed my bags and moved back home. I used a small compact film camera to document my  reunion with this country that now felt as familiar as foreign. 

Where to begin ? Homecoming also meant questioning my gaze, belonging and identity. I was back home, and paradoxically I felt lost. So I started with what I knew. 

I went back to the river, and I followed it.»
